About Us

Colin D. Calway has been around fish and aquatic plants for over sixty years. Starting as a child in England with a few fishing nets catching minnows and proudly advancing to a fishing pole by the age of six. He loves to fish whether it’s for Blue Gill or Blue Marlin.

While residing in West Palm Beach, Florida in the 1980s and part of the 1990s, he hooked and released many sailfish as well as one 300-pound Blue Marlin off the Jupiter Inlet. The Marlin gave him a fight he will never forget. After about four hours of fighting, this fish broke loose from the hook after many leaps in the air. I saluted him and said, maybe we will meet again next year. My muscles ached for days after the battle.

I have kept and raised fish from an early age. To me they represent living jewels.

At Happy Trails Aquatics we have thirty three ponds in which we raise Japanese Koi Carp, Mosquito Fish, some tropical fish, and wild golden shiners.

I started with one pond, dug a couple more to expand my hobby, and just kept digging more until I found I had a small family business going when people started requesting to purchase the fish and plants that we were raising.

We have expanded our hobby to a business by growing aquatic plants and water lilies (nothing in moderation). Bottom line is we intend to keep the farm a small family business, otherwise it may cease to be a hobby and become work, which is stressful! We love what we do at Happy Trails Aquatics and we welcome guests to visit our farm by appointment.
