Mosquito Fish Facts
It is native to North America.
Its temperature range is between 30-100F
It can be used in far Northern States like Alaska but would have to be restocked each springtime.
Mosquito Fish are extremely hardy and will tolerate and thrive in just about any standing water, regardless of pH or oxygen content.
They bear live young, which are born approx. 3/8 " long and immediately feed on mosquito larvae.
When stocked in ponds with larger fish they will inhabit the shallows to avoid predators.
Mosquito larvae inhabit the shallows and become easy prey to the mosquito fish.
At Happy Trails we have large colonies of Mosquito fish swimming in the same ponds as our algae eating Koi Carp and Tropicals, like Rosy Barbs, Red Swordtails and various Cichlids.
Mother Nature finds a balance and the fish that we raise are of the highest quality and very healthy.
Mosquito Facts
Mosquito's kill more humans than any other animal or insect on this earth.
Protozoan diseases = Malaria.
Uncontrolled, there are spreading diseases such as yellow fever, West Nile virus ,dengue fever, malaria, encephalitis and Rift Valley fever -- a virus transmitted from livestock to humans by mosquitoes that causes diarrhea, internal bleeding and can result in death.
Heartworm disease which can kill dogs.
Eastern equine encephalitis, a fatal disease for horses and birds.
Each year throughout the world, millions of people are infected by malaria and an estimated 2.7 million die from disease spread by mosquito's.
Stock your ponds with mosquito fish and start helping the world to reduce these terrible diseases.
Why Use Mosquito Fish to Control Mosquitoes?
A thousand Mosquito fish will consume an average of 250,000 to 300,000 Mosquito larvae per day, a huge dent in the mosquito population, before they ever hatch while the absence of chemical sprays allow natural predators like dragonflies, bats, and birds to attack the existing adult mosquitoes. They are extremely hardy and will tolerate and thrive in just about any standing water, regardless of pH or oxygen content. If water levels get low, they tend to multiply faster in the warm shallows.
If you are located within a two hour drive of Happy Trails Aquatics, including central and south Florida, we can come to you and stock your ponds, golf courses, condo associations, housing associations, cattle ranches, equestrian establishments, chicken farms, pig farms, ponds, private homes, or anywhere you have standing water.
We recommend heavily stocking your ponds on agricultural land, (doubling to 2,000 mosquito fish/per acre) , Eastern Equine Encephalitis is deadly to horses, infected with EEE , they have a 90% fatality rate. Those who survive may have permanent brain damage. If you have ponds or standing water around your livestock, do them and yourself a favor, greatly reduce the spread of mosquito-borne diseases with biological mosquito control. Yellow fever, the West Nile virus, Dengue fever, Malaria, along with Rift Valley fever (a virus that can be transmitted from livestock to humans by mosquitoes that causes diarrhea, internal bleeding and can result in death ), are spreading fast.
We are situated in South Central Florida where the reputation is that you can't even live out here because of the bugs and mosquito's. NOT TRUE! Thanks to the Mosquito Fish farm , we have very little problem with bugs or mosquito's and can sit out on the porch on a summer's evening and enjoy the beauty around us without being bit to death by mosquito's.
Thank you Mosquito Fish!Mosquito Fish are the answer to Mosquito control when you look at the alternative ways that are used to control mosquitos, such as pesticides, poison sprays, spreading oil on the surface of the water to suffocate the mosquito larvae, as well as every other aquatic creature. Thousands of dragonflies and their larvae are killed using these alternative methods. Dragonflies attack the adult mosquito flying above the water while the mosquito fish attack the larvae below the water, a deadly attack on the Mosquito population, completely Nature's way.
Dragonflies do not bite humans. Poisons and sprays kill humans.

The State of Florida says, don't stock Mosquito Fish in wetlands or where there
are endangered species. Other than that, put the Mosquito Fish out there to
combat the West Nile Virus and every other Mosquito born disease.
Florida Mosquito Control will refer you to Happy Trails Aquatics for Mosquito Fish.
There is funding for the counties in the State of Florida for this purpose.
